3rd Annual Summer Solstice - 2014

The 200 mile riders showed up at 6pm on the dot and after we loaded up in ithinkbig's van, we were off to Ventura. We made great time on the drive up and got to the Pacific Inn Motel at about 10:30pm. We unloaded, scavenged the town for food, then it was lights out.

June 21st, 2014 - The Ride.

The 200 crew blasted off from Ventura at about 4:30 am.

***

Oxnard, less than an hour in to the ride, Chris Rivera tried to dodge a rock and ended up biffing it. He hurt his shoulder pretty bad, scratched up his bike, and got a flat. As we were fixing his flat, Josh Fulks realized that he had a flat too! A rock had some how punctured his tire. Once both the flats were fixed, we all were back on the road.

***

But that didn't last too long.. Not much farther down the road, Mark Bell got a flat. This one also from a rock. After this, we decided Oxnard should be called Rocksnard.

***

We had such a beautiful ride through Point Mugu, Leo Carrillo, then Malibu.

The sunrise was peeking through the light marine layer and we enjoyed a great tail wind.

***

Thanks to Pete and Kathy for running our 50 mile refueling station!

This was VITAL and helped energize the pack.

***

After the 50 mile refresher, we traveled through Santa Monica, Venice Beach, and El Segundo.

***

We booked it through Redondo Beach and ESPECIALLY in Torrance to make it to Long Beach by noon.

***

We finally got to City Grounds Long Beach, the half way checkpoint.

The Ride4Water 100 riders had driven up in the am and were waiting for us.

***

The 100 riders had an awesome ride through Dana Point, San Clemente, and Camp Pendleton.

One of Ryan Delamater's friend merged with us and rode 30 miles in a red speedo!

***

At our after party, Ryan Delamater spoke about Ride4water and it's mission. Stephanie Dougherty decorated Mosaic, got a cake, snacks, and was an all around key ingredient to making the party happen. LT Mex grilled up epic street tacos and Pizza Port hooked us up with a (much needed) keg of Chronic Amber Ale!

***

At about 9:30pm, the 100 riders started showing up and the only 200 riders who completed the entire ride were :

Nick (Did the 200 on a SINGLE SPEED) Moultrie!

Joe (Did the 200 miles on a BRAKELESS FIXED GEAR) Kelley!

Chris (Same Chris who crashed in Oxnard / also on a FIXED GEAR) Rivera!

***

Thanks everyone who was involved in one way or another!
